The victim, a 42-year-old woman, was discovered by Atlanta police after her boyfriend, who was driving the Nissan Armada SUV, flagged down an officer near a gas station. It has been reported that the shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. on the block of 221 Cleveland Avenue, but the exact details surrounding the location of the shooting are still unclear. The boyfriend has told authorities that his girlfriend fatally shot herself while they were driving. Investigators are now to actively piece together the events leading up to her death.

Atlanta News First reported that the woman was found inside her vehicle which was parked at a BP gas station. However, the actual shooting is thought to have occurred elsewhere. Lt. Chris Hewitt of the Atlanta Police Department stated, "We do not have a location. We do know that it [the shooting] was inside the vehicle and we do know that an officer was flagged down."
