Starting next week, MARTA riders should hop off at the College Park station when catching a flight out of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The Airport station will close from April 8 to May 19 during renovations to its concourse and platform levels. During that time, MARTA will run a shuttle between the College Park station and the North Terminal Lower Level, which is downstairs from North Baggage Claim. Riders will be dropped off and picked up at doors LN1 and LN2.

The shuttle will run on a 22-hour schedule from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m. Airport passengers and employees are advised to begin their transit trips 30 minutes earlier than usual in case of heavy traffic. Approximately 11,000 people travel through the Airport station on a daily basis.

MARTA started rehabilitating the station in June 2022. Construction crews have completed structural work in preparation of installing a new elevator, replaced the south vestibule and made progress on electrical upgrades. The $55 million project will add a new RideStore for Breeze cards and fare information, public art, signage, floor tiles, wall cladding, ceilings, lighting, elevator and a canopy complementing the airport’s canopy. Employee areas and an existing elevator will also be renovated.

The six-week closure will allow MARTA to shave 17 months off the timeline for construction. Nightly closures are anticipated for 10 months in 2025, and another six-week closure is planned toward the end of the project to install the new canopy. The redone station is expected to be completed by early 2026.

“As we continue to serve as a vital hub for global travel, the upcoming renovations at MARTA’s Airport station reflect our joint commitment to enhancing the travel experience,” said ATL Airport General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari in a prepared statement. “We fully support this upgrade, encouraging our airport community to plan accordingly by allowing extra time for travel."
