Atlanta Fraudster Gets 10-Plus Years for $3 Million PPP Scheme

Atlanta man sentenced to 10+ years for $3M PPP loan fraud scheme exploiting COVID-19 relief funds. Ian Jackson, a two-time convicted felon, has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison for orchestrating a scheme to steal over $3 million in at least 15 fraudulent pandemic loans. Jackson recruited at least nine business owners to submit fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan applications containing falsified payroll information and fabricated IRS tax forms. Each business received $300,000 in PPP money, and Jackson received a share of the stolen funds. Jackson also used a fraudulent Georgia driver's license to apply for approximately $100,000 worth of Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) and PPP loans. The fraud proceeds were used for personal expenses, including restaurant dining, spa services, phone and credit card bills, and travel to Aruba. The case was investigated by the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
