A sweet proposal: College sweethearts get engaged at Peeps-themed suite

MACON, Ga. — A Georgia couple is celebrating after getting engaged at a one-of-a-kind Peeps-themed marshmallow suite ahead of Easter. The proposal, of course, was very sweet.
It all started when college sweethearts Matthew Rivera, 27, and Carly Jessup, 28, met while working on a group project at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
"I thought she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen," Rivera recalled. "I have been ready to propose to this girl ever since our first date. I always knew she would be the one."
Fast-forward several years to today, the couple now lives in Macon, Georgia. Rivera said that when he was planning his proposal, he wanted to make it extra special for Jessup, an aficionado of all things Peeps.
"Carly started collecting Peeps merch in elementary school, so it has been over 20 years of being a big fan of Peeps candy and plushes," Rivera explained.
After seeing Peeps' social media post about its new immersive experience at the "Peeps Sweet Suite" near the company's headquarters, Rivera knew it was the perfect.
"I knew I had to book the room immediately because I knew the thought of staying in a Peeps-themed hotel room would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Carly," Rivera said. "Peeps reached out to me, and they were all in on helping me plan. We started planning in early February, and it came together so perfectly."
So, after all the planning and a trip to Pennsylvania, it turned out to be a picturesque setting for the sweetest proposal – complete with whimsical and colorful Peeps decor.
"I was very surprised! I felt so happy when he proposed and was truly blown away by all the work he had done behind the scenes to make the proposal so special for me," Jessup said. "It was such a thoughtful way to propose, bringing in my favorite candy brand to be a part of the big day."
