Celebrate Juneteenth in Atlanta with these events
Juneteenth recognizes the day the last enslaved people in Texas learned about their freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation in 1865. Juneteenth is celebrated in Atlanta next Wednesday, with events being held throughout the week to celebrate the holiday. The Home Depot Backyard's Truist Night Market will host a Juneteenth edition, featuring Black chefs, artists, and Black-owned spirit brands. The Cobb County branch of the NAACP will host its 21st Juneteenth Weekend Celebration on Marietta Square, and the 12th annual Juneteenth Atlanta Parade and Music Festival will return next week at Piedmont Park. Other events include the city of Austell's Juneteenth Fest, live music, free tours, and children's storytelling at Historic Oakland Cemetery's Jeteenth Family Festival. The city of South Fulton will host their Juneteenth Celebration, with food trucks, kids' fun zone, and a wellness space at the city's J.eteenth Fest.
