The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party Is... in Atlanta?
There’s something beautiful about a bye week in the fall. Instead of worrying about whatever craziness might happen in Sanford Stadium—like Gunner Stockton somehow fumbling the ball to lose to an Auburn team who would be flirting with SEC relegation, if that was a thing—I’m able to sit on a patio wearing a hoodie and shorts, drink a beverage and listen to music while loosely monitoring college football happening outside of the vicinity of Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. My phone says it’s 68 degrees, and the wind is blowing in Athens while people walk around downtown, enjoying the new College Square, finding some live music to take in or maybe even go to a pumpkin patch with Halloween […] The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia, for the first time since 1995. The game will be played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium this year, then moved to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa in 2027, before returning to its place in Duval County the following year. Georgia football coach Kirby Smart has argued that having the game at a neutral field has hindered the Bulldog's recruiting efforts and cost them a recruiting weekend. Both Atlanta and Tampa each received $7.5 million to move the game. Since the last time Florida beat Georgia in the 2020 season, Georgia has won two national championships, three SEC championships, reached four playoffs and had a better recruiting class than Florida.
