Georgia families, providers looking for resources to combat rising childcare costs

Childcare can be costly, and both families and providers across Georgia are having to deal with rising prices. Georgia's Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) has hosted a regional road show to connect childcare providers with agency updates, resources, professional learning opportunities, and direct access to DECAL program staff. DECAL Commissioner Amy Jacobs stated that high-quality childcare should be costly due to the responsibilities of the facilities and their need to survive. She also emphasized that DECAL offers many programs and resources to help families, especially low-income families, to cover costs associated with childcare. Michelle Smith Lank, owner and operator of Kids World Learning Center in Statesboro, said that maintaining the highest level of care and service for roughly 200 kids is a top priority. Smith Lank also mentioned that while she would like to raise prices, the decision will leave the center in the red this year.
