JONESBORO, Ga. — Opportunities are growing for a metro Atlanta high school band after their latest invite to the White House.

First Lady Jill Biden has invited Jonesboro High School's "Majestic Marching Cardinals" to perform at the 2024 White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, according to a release.

A White House release stated that the band is known for being an "energetic, high-stepping, traditional band that brings excitement and unparalleled energy to every performance."

Dr. Biden surprised the 150 students with a virtual visit on Wednesday during their after-school rehearsal -- expressing her excitement.

It comes after their appearance in Usher's Super Bowl performance commercial last month.

The latest invitations aren't the only appearances they will be making. Last year, the high school band members were informed they would be performing in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The metro Atlanta band is one of four that will perform at the Easter Egg Roll this year. About 40,000 people, including military personnel and veterans, will see them sound their horns and drums.

According to the release, the event will feature traditional Easter activities with an educational twist on the White House's South Lawn.

"This invitation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of these student band members and their outstanding band director as well as his team of coaches,” said Superintendent Dr. Anthony W. Smith.

Their band director, Lynel Goodwin, expressed gratitude for their invitation and the opportunities it will bring for the students.

"The Majestic Marching Cardinals band program is built on creating opportunities and experiences for our students. These experiences define who our students become and how they contribute to the world beyond playing instruments,” he said.
