Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is known as the world's busiest airport, handling millions of passengers annually. The airport, which has five runways and over 190 gates, facilitates several thousand daily flights to over 150 US destinations and is connected to over 70 destinations in 43 countries. 11 US-based carriers serve the airport, including Delta Air Lines, which operates the majority of the market share. The Delta Sky Club lounges are located at each concourse and are open as late as 23:00 or 00:00. There are also 263 concession outlets, including three duty-free stores, and a banking center, Georgia Lottery outlets, ATMs, vending machines, and spas. Known as the world’s busiest airport, Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) handles millions of passengers annually. With five runways and over 190 gates, the airport facilitates several thousand daily flights to more than 150 US destinations. Internationally, the airport is connected to over 70 destinations in 43 countries. Over the past two decades, ATL has grown substantially – and continues to grow, having just opened one of the largest lounges in the US.
11 US-based carriers serve the airport, along with 15 international airlines. ATL is notably home to Delta Air Lines, which operates the majority of the market share. The legacy carrier handles around three-quarters of ATL’s flights – equivalent to nearly 700 peak daily departures. With an airfield split from north to south, the airport’s expansive layout spans 156.1 acres and comprises two main terminals with seven concourses, while the total airport area is 4,700 acres.
ATL is located about 10 miles south of Downtown Atlanta. As such a large airport, it could be easy to get lost, whether it be a new passenger or a frequent traveler. The airport has 192 gates, 40 of which handle international flights, and as a major hub, a large percentage of its travelers are connecting to another flight.

As the largest airline at ATL, Delta operates Delta Sky Club lounges at each concourse. Many of the locations are open as late as 23:00 or 00:00.
Throughout the airport, there are 263 concession outlets. 114 locations offer food and beverages, 90 locations are retail and convenience outlets, and there are three duty-free stores. 56 service outlets include a banking center, Georgia Lottery outlets, ATMs, vending machines, and spas. All of the concessions space combined covers approximately 23,000 square feet.
According to Travel + Leisure, Concourse T has three airline lounges – American Airlines’ Admirals Lounge, Delta Sky Club, and the United Club. There are also several eateries, including Bojangles and Subway. Concourse A has more than 20 restaurants and bars, such as P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, SweetWater Brewing Company, and Dunkin’. The services at the concourse include a relief area for service animals and currency exchange. There are also stores such as Tumi, MAC Cosmetics, and a CVS Pharmacy kiosk.
Concourse B has a similar layout and a plethora of dining and shopping locations. Some outlets include Blue Moon Brewhouse, Asian Chao, Peet’s Coffee, Kiehl’s Skincare Apothecary, and Sunglass Icon. The Delta Sky Club is located near gate B18 and includes a grab-and-go experience, allowing members to get snacks to go as an alternative to the full Delta Sky Club experience. The Concourse B location is open daily from 05:30 to 22:30.
Concourse C has a Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Chick-fil-A, and a LongHorn Steakhouse restaurant. Other services include a service animal relief area and lounge for smokers. The Delta Sky Club location, near gate C37, is open daily from 06:45 to 22:30. Eateries in Concourse D include the Atlanta Braves All-Star Grill, Chipotle, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Five Guys. Some of the stores in the concourse include Brookstone and Johnston & Murphy.
Concourse E also has several shopping and dining options – The Bar, Best Buy Express, and Headphone Hub. The Delta Sky Club is across from gate E15, while the Centurion Lounge is near gate E11. Notably, this lounge is the largest Centurion Lounge in American Express’ global collection. Concourse F, which primarily handles international flights, has duty-free shopping stores such as Tumi and Brookstone.
Restaurants include Pei Wei Asian Diner and Starbucks. There are two lounges in the course, including Delta Sky Club, located on the mezzanine level – open daily from 06:45-00:00 – and The Club at ATL, available to travelers with Priority Pass.
There are several ways to get around the airport. ATL also offers ground transportation, a rental car center, and bus service to Metro Atlanta through the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA).
ATL is Georgia’s largest employer with over 63,000 airline, ground transportation, concessionaire, security, federal government, City of Atlanta, and Airport tenant employees. The airport is also an economic jewel of the state, generating more than $34 billion in economic impact for metro Atlanta. Since 1998, the airport has been the busiest in the world for 23 out of 24 years. On average, ATL handles 286,000 passengers per day.
